I posted a plea a few weeks ago about one of the horses in our yard ripping the other horses rugs. Someone suggested putting an older rug on top that didn't matter if it got damaged. Well I bought from a second hand charity tack shop some old fashioned string sweat rugs (£4 each) and used those instead. I sewed on an old tie to use as a fillet string. In the holes around the rump area (where the rugs were mostly ripped) I interwove some sprigs of holly!! To date it has worked! Although the sweat rugs are being bitten and we have had to do some repairs (what would we do without baler twine!!). To date our expensive rugs have been saved.
