Hi all,

Just wondering if anyone knows of a decent place I can take two VERY dirty rugs to get cleaned/reproofed in the Edinburgh/West Lothian area?

I was going to send them away to an online company, but with the time of year etc I won't get them back in time, so would like to find somewhere local!

Ta much!

Thanks for the reply! Do you reckon she'd be able to do them by Sunday?

I have decided to buy the horse I was talking about before and try the working livery at Oatridge. (if she's not happy, I'll move her elsewhere, but it's worth a go I reckon and a lot of the liveries on her current yard who know her think it could work well)

She moves there on Sunday and will be clipped/stabled at night, whereas at the moment she is a wooly donkey living out! When I bought her, the price included tack and rugs, however the rugs have obviously been lying around for AGES gathering dust and are manky!

You could also try Central Saddlery in Avonbridge but they send the rugs away and so I doubt you'd get them back by the weekend.

Have you considered getting them cleaned in your local launderette - many do horse rugs and know not to shrink them. You could then re-proof yourself. I know this isn't ideal but it would be the quickest solution.

Good luck with your new horse.

There is actually a new stable manager there who is overseeing the new facilities etc. The college is now going to be home to the Scottish National Equestrian Centre and has a HUGE new indoor school, XC course, will have brand new stable blocks in the near future etc. They're really putting a lot into it and will want to keep everything just so in order to justify all the funding!

I was a little worried at first, but I am going to give it a go and see how my horse finds it. If she's not happy, I'll find her a new home, but it could work out well as she'll be getting lots of attention and the workload is much less than riding schools etc.

They are vet checked every fortnight just to make sure all is well. The stable manager seems to really know her stuff and care, so fingers crossed it will all go ok.

My mare was at Oatridge before I bought her and the problems she has come back with ( head shy, catching problems, loading problems, resistant to accepting a contact and was really miserable) which people who know her say have been caused there! Give it a go by all means as you say it sounds much improved but it doesn't suit every horse as mine shows.
