I turned horse out in full neck under rug and a full neck heavy weight, with two fastenings on neck, two chest straps, cross belly surcingles, two leg straps. my YO saw him at 2pm and he was still properly dressed, when she looked at him again at 4pm he was wearing just his under-rug. His turnout was on the ground with all the buckles and straps still done up and no rips or tears..His paddock mostly has electric fencing so not much for him to scratch on or "lever" it off with and he's turned out on his own I've had him nearly three years and he's never even so much as rubbed his rugs ... Now is he houdini in disguise or is someone playing silly beggars with me ?

There was a post on here not so long ago about a horse who was stood naked in its field with its rug on the floor but in this case the rug straps were all undone and the owner felt certain that this incident had more sinister implications. I advised her to contact Horsewatch, and paint her rugs with her horses freezemark as I thought that maybe a potential thief had undone the rug to check for a freezemark number (her horse was freezemarked) and at the time this made the most sense. In your horses case as the straps are still done up (hence no human intervention) I would say your horse is just very intelligent (or too hot)!! LOL

last year i found my boy in just a fleece and his heavy weight combo on the floor with all the fittings done up to this day i dont know how it happened and it has never happened again

We have an intelligent cob at my yard who can keep his rug with neck on but take off a quilted vest underneath. This can only be removed by being taken over his head so how on earth he manages it is beyond us! My warmblood was turned out a couple of winters ago after being on minimum turnout due to mudfever abd managed to remove his rug completly with all the straps still done up. The rug however was completed trashed and has to be dragged out of the liquid mud where he had left it.....
