I'm having trouble finding a well fitting rugs for my new horse. He's not wide or fat but has a very big front - long sloping shoulder and I am finding every rug I buy for him (he's between a 6'3" and 6'6") chafes either side at the front as he moves. The Rambos with the ring closure infront are completely out. I've hat to tie string across the front of one I am using at the moment - just so he can move!

Anyone have any recommendations for rugs which accommodate a large shoulder?

Masta rugs are very big on the shoulders, Premier Equine are also quite big (not as big as Masta ones though) At my yard the HW cobs and my clydie x have Masta rugs and it fits there chunky shoulders perfectly

My friend always bought FAL rugs for her cobs. She said they fitted them better. I believe you can buy rug extenders for closing across the chest.

I found that most rugs with the leg gussets at the front fitted my cob. Though some are more generouse than others! Weatherbeeta rugs never gave me any problem though I had to economise in the end and found that loveson rugs done him does as well and were more in my budget at the time

Also just to add the loveson are retiring and shutting down

much to my upset so if your going to try and find any of their rugs ide look quick because they sent out their last lot of stock a while ago.

Exactly my thoughts lol, they do the jods that fit me perfect and my riding boots :'( Their going to be very much missed

Can't remember the make but its countrywide's(www.countrywidefarmers.co.uk) own brand... think it may be Kadence? Cheap but think its the only one thats really ever fitted my cob!! Also got long sides so his belly doesn't stick out the bottom.

Failing that we've found getting a size up from your normal size works as can pull it round front more. mine thats was originally in 5'9 rugs is now in 6'3

For stable rugs - my Weatherbeeta is the only one that fits my mare's chunky shoulders. It is the one they do in navy (with purple binding) or black (with red binding) with shoulder gussets.
For t/o - Derbyhouse is the only one that fits really well

It is a h/w combo. I a, planning on getting a l/w one from there too at some point as her Weeatherbeeta t/o doesn't fit her shoulders.
I find going up sizes doesn't help as they still pull and rub on the shoulders.

I've had the same problem with my two - both big chested and big shouldered and Fal rugs are definitely the best for this. They're not cheap but they fit brilliantly and are excellent quality - outlasted my old boy and still going strong with my current one, who has destroyed other rugs, but not his Fal ones.
