Hello

My TB has high withers, particularly at the moment as he has been out of work and has dropped all his muscle - I have started bringing him back into work now. I have had problems before with finding rugs that don't pull down on his withers. Each year I check around to see if anyone has released a TB high withered rug yet but I can't find anything. He has a BUCAS for the very cold weather, but I need a new MW for the autumn and I wondered if anyone has any advice on what rug make fits their high withered horses well?

Thank you very much for any advice,

Rosie

I find the half necks/high necks are good for this because they sit forward of the wither. Wugs are one, also I have some Weatherbeeta takas with a high neck but they are an older model so not sure if they make anything similar now.

Rugs with gussets for mine, I find those without rub his shoulders. Ive finally found a fly rug that doesnt rub.. a Weatherbeeta with the gusset. His winter rugs are Weatherbeeta too.

My high withered WB used to get on very well with the Rambo Optimo rugs. A sort of UltraGusset I guess. The weight of the bulk of the rug sits on the back rather than pulling down over the wither. And I noticed the rug didn't pull back on him after he'd had it on for a while. Don't know if they do a MW in that design though.

I think there are special rugs but can't remember make, got a padded area that goes around the withers & lifts the rug off withers. Anyway, I have high withered TB & always use horseware or bucas. As many have said high necks & wugs are good. Mine wintered out last year in a Rambo vari-layer, I specifically got this rug as wanted as little weight as I could pulling down on his withers & the liners are nice & light as well. I also always use bossy bibs/similar silky bibs & only use them a couple of times before washing, so the rugs slide over his withers.
