I have recently had all my medium turnouts washed and cleaned by my usual rug washers - out of the 5 one has come back at least a size smaller than it went! They are all well known brands.

I have contacted both the brand and the cleaners and neither will take responsibility - the cleaners says it must be the rug and the brand say if they had washed the rug correctly in cold water there is no way it would have shrunk?!

The cleaners just aren't taking responsibility!!

What can i do?! The horse wouldn't be able to walk in his new size 6'0 rug (he is a 6'6!)

This would only happen to me!!

Do they still have the sizing tags inside them? I'd take a picture of the label, and a picture of the rug with a tape measure next to it. Then send cleaners the pictures and threaten with small claims, then hope they'll decide to sort it out.

I have a rug cleaning business and have to say I find it hard to believe a rug would shrink 6 inches!! there is generally a bit of 'shrinkage' but its more like when you wash yor jeans and they 'give' once they have been worn and are back to normal!:)

As it is a 6inch difference have you checked the label to make sure it is your rug?

I expect you will find they have a disclaimer regarding shrinkage.

Well I had my rambo optimo washed and reproofed last yr, was new last yr, and put it on last night and it was tight across the chest and her arse was hanging out of the liners! I think she has grown to be fair but will not be getting a new rug as it was brand spanking new last year grr!

Hi - thanks for the replies - it has shrunk just over 4 inches - definately my rug as the little tears that have been repaired are in the same places!

I guess i am stuck with it!

Tiger Tail - what size is your Optimo? I have a 6'6 which is huge on my boy and he could probably do with a 6'3 instead! The 6'6 in the Optimo is coming up much bigger than the new Rhino 6'6 lightweight turnout I have for him and is even bigger than an older Rhino with a neck cover which is 6'9 which fits him fine!

Do your rug washers dry naturally or use a tumble dryer or similar? Some washers round us use dryers and regularly shrink rugs, argh!!! Now I ask the company before handing rugs over as I don't want them any smaller thanks!

Best of luck persuing this, don't let them fob you off.
