I would not expect 600d to remain waterproof in a downpour, the fibres are not close enough together. A light brief shower is a different matter. I suspect you are asking too much of this rug rather than it being faulty. Try 1200d, IME these can withstand much more of a soaking.
 
I don't believe that any rug is totally waterproof - if it really chucked it down (like it did here!) then it would be possible to get water seeping through.

Why don't you speak to someone at derbyhouse though?
 
The rain has been pretty bad but I would expect a turnout to be waterproof afterall thats what its sold as. If its totally wet through then I would get back in touch but if its just a bit, maybe where the seams are or at the front then I think with the weather it is to be expected.
 
The denier weight is something I would equate with its thickness and strength it shouldn't have anything to do with its ability to repel water. If I had a turnout rug that was only a week old, I would expect it to repel any rain. It is sold as a waterproof turnout and it should not leak. Take it back.

I was told something very similar by my local tack shop. I know in theory the denier is an indication of how resistant to tearing the rug is but have found that 600d is only showerproof.

I find you spend your money and take your chances - there is a reason why some rugs are so much more expensive!

The denier is vitally important when looking at whether a rug will in fact be waterproof or merely shower proof.

So whilst the advert is misleading and OP can send the rug back for a full re-fund. If you do want waterproof - 1200d plus is always what you need to buy.

used to work for local tack shop and they had a cheap 600d rug only once did one ever come back and it was replaced no questions

My new Rambo rug leaked!!! 8 weeks on I am still waiting for replacement :mad::mad:

Agreed.
The rug should be waterproof if sold as a turnout irrespective of denier.
