Hey there, I am not sure what to do about rug or no rug. My fine built TB mare has started living out for the summer last weekend. While it was warm in the day she has been wearing a rug for most nights still as it has turned quite chilly. However, yesterday she went naked day and night as it was very mild. Now, today it is still very warm and apparently until later in the evening, but early hours are forecast to be chilly and so I am wondering if to put a rug on or not and whichone. As it is still mild in the evening, would a rainsheet give her the extra warmth she will need in the early hours? I sometimes wonder if she would then not be better off naked to make use of her own coat's ability to adjust? She still has a fair bit of winter coat. Or do I stick a lightweight on with 100g fill and risk that she is a little warm to start with? What would you do?

Unless it is forecast to rain, which would be a shock to her system, leave her alone. It is getting wet that makes them miserable. I'd leave her naked.

Another vote for naked too, excepting if rain is forecast. A dry horse with fibre available can warm them selves up, a wet horse would struggle.

Our TB is out all year round (yes really :D )
she is currently just wearing a sheet overnight incase of rain really :/ she hates that
(and she stands under a tree frequently where birds poop on her ! lol )
otherwise she is naked much as possible so she can have a good roll and ich her long maulting coat :D
