Am just throwing this out:

Back at the end of last winter, i.e. round about March (this year) I had some rugs professionally cleaned and some were repaired as well.

We use a professional rug-laundry cum repair service who covers certain areas in the South West. This individual collects rugs from both equine outlets and also private yards.

So some rugs of mine were duly collected, and I explained what needed cleaning, and what needed mending, and the rugs were delivered back to the yard, beautifully clean, and mended.

So like one does, I put them back into the rug locker and thought no more about it. We'd used this particular individual before and always had good service.

I did notice, in a few weeks or so, that we'd been left one extra rug - and asked around if anyone else at the yard laid claim to it. The answer was no, so I rang the rug-repairer person and said that we had an extra rug and it didn't seem to belong to anyone. The reply was that it belonged to "a friend" and it would be collected whenever they were in the area. They also said that they owed me £9 due to the fact that there was one rug which they'd cleaned only and not repaired, but had charged me the extra by mistake when the rugs were delivered back.

So after a few weeks nothing had happened; so I'd rung this repairer/launderer person who'd promised faithfully to drop by and pick up the extra rug, plus refund me my £9.

Well to cut a long story short .......... I've rung on several occasions and been given the story that the rug "belongs to a friend" and that it will be collected soon and my money returned.

So around the middle of November, I wrote a letter to this individual, saying words to the effect that if the rug isn't collected by 31 December; I would either be selling it on e-bay OR donating it to a horses welfare centre, and also please I'd like my £9 back.

I still am waiting for any sort of reply.

OK so £9 isn't a huge deal, BUT its damn nearly a tenner, and I'm fed up also with hanging onto what in effect is someone's rug, and they're probably missing it by now.

So as the 31st December deadline is fast approaching: I don't know what else I can do?

Am I being fair? Opinions/suggestions please.

As you use them regularly I wouldn't bother - would just ask to take the £9 off your next bill - must be coming up to needing some cleaned? My heavy weight stable rugs will be going off shortly!

Sell the rug on eBay, you should get over £9! Then as luci said take it off your next bill if you will use them again, if not threaten trading standards.

Does this person live any place near enough by to anywhere you'd be likely to drive for you to call in with rug... and demand your 9GBP?

Might be worth checking everything over in case of any other niggles before you visit...

Is the rug 6ft by chance? Turnout?

I need a 6ft Turnout (with out leg straps) ideally fillet string design for my youngster. I will buy it if you get no sense from the Rug people :)

Well you won't believe this but the rug person has now contacted me! At the eleventh hour as the cut-off date was 31st December!!!

Apparently (not holding my breath) "it will be collected some time next week". OK so we've been here before LOL. But will see if it happens. If not then poster above I shall break the seal on the bag and have a look-see at what size it is OK.
