Im washing and reproofing my rugs but one has a gash in it - right through, i only bought it last year so want to try and repair it.

Ive bought superglue to glue on some waterproof tape i bought today from diy shop - is this a good way to do it?

How to do you repair your rugs - sewing is no good, i tried last year - stitches dont last 2 minutes with my big rolling lad!

I keep old rugs to cut up and make patches from. I can then sew the patch over the hole/rip and so far they've all stayed on and waterproof! You need to get good strong synthetic thread and tough fingers as I sew by hand and it can be a bit ouchy!

If you have got a sewing machine which will handle the rug, then this type of stitching will hold, but often hand sewing on its own wont.

If I were you, I would patch it using both superglue and hand stitching as well, to re-inforce it. Then rub wax over the stitches.

For small nicks and tears I have a tube of bathroom sealant that I dab over to cover up and seal small holes and tears.

excellent tips - as usual from here lol - ty everyone - seems a shame to throw anotherwise newish rug out, im buying another but id like to repair this as a spare xxx
