I've decided to invest in a sewing machine to mend a couple of rugs which my naughty pony seems to be intent on shredding this winter. Can anyone advise on the best make/model - I've been looking at a Toshiba CU17 which is supposed to sew heavy duty fabrics and even leather but would welcome recommendations. Thanks in advance.

It depends on how many? and how often? If it is going to be used for a business get an industrial machine. If only now and again you could buy something like the old black and gold electric singers. If you get an ordinary machine check the clearance between the needle foot and the machine bed and use a large needle size 90 or 16 try to sew slowly and don't use a quilting thread as it will break your needle.

Any more questions pm me as I used to be in the trade.
