Ben has two patches of rubbing on his chest area, I need to start these growing back, any tips. Im not certain which rug has caused this as he has had two different rugs on this winter and i only switched about 3 weeks ago.

I am due at my first show in may, and two more in june. I need to get this growing back but its just not 'remove coat weather' yet. What can I sew onto the inside to stop rubbing what is the best material? Any topical or even supplementary ideas? would biotin help, as essentially feet and hair are made of the same stuff?

Help please, what is the best way to deal with this?

Just get a anti rub bib n put it under all the rugs u use. I've got a iv horse one, works great! should be casting coat at this time of year so it'll grow back quickly. I use to keep the rubs moisturised and massaged the area to try n stimulate the skin. Don't know if it sped up the growth but it made me feel better ;~)

We just get some cheap liner material from the local fabric shop and see it into the lining.

Silk patches sewn into the rug where it rubs, or a different rug
As I said I am not entirely certain which is the culprit rug, I am suspecting that it is the stable rug I used as an under rug, but not 100% certain, have looked at bossy bibs and am half way through making a similar construction with a silk material
cornucresing massaged in and a rug that fits better.
its Cornucrescine and there are a million other people I would take advice from first.

Couldn't have said it better myself....

Anyway, I would try and make sure the chest straps on any rug you do have on now are tight enough to stop the rug moving backwards excessively on movement. Plus, perhaps the layering doesn't help so if poss when the weather is mild get the rugs off or just put on a fleece when you know he is going to be warm enough.

Forgive me for being really stupid now, but when did you say your County show was? I gather that is not until later in the summer?

If it's just local level in May then I wouldn't worry too much about rub marks - some horses still have clip lines and wot not going on at that point. Judges at local level are more leniant.

:p love your first comment :D

He is well out of layers now, and generally in a standard MW rug with no neck, although tonight he is in his MT combo as his other is drenched:mad:, I suspect the stable rug as it was a squeeze so I had the straps loose at the front... but now as I said that is shelved.

Show is 2nd week of june, Royal Cornwall, I will also be doing lower level show 2nd week of May and 1st week of June, but sincerely hoping that by June there is good coverage! :D

The satin bibs work well :) Mega-Tek also helps grow the hair back. http://eqyss.com/mega_tek2.asp

Once the hair has grown back, keep up with the bib but make sure you change it once a week. When they get dirty they can start to rub. I also use a bit of No-Nots (or whatever mane and tail detanger you have) over the shoulders helps to prevent rubbing :)

thank you, good idea re: topical treatment, and good tip re:bib thanks :D Oh and Megatek yes, already considering that :D

A bib of some sort and Bio Oil, buy the Leovet one, it's the same stuff as Boots sells, but 10x as much for the same price :)
ETS a biotin based hoof supplement will help with coat indeed, as will linseed or any other oily product.

Thank you, yes bio oil... Great idea, never thought of that! Was considering adding linseed to his diet, but have abstained with the grass coming through as I don't want to overdo condition and was going to opt for straight oil instead for more gleam, less condition purposes, although I am still considering feeding linseed at a lesser rate, or baileys outshine... Not certain yet.

We give a squirt of canter mane and tail conditioner to the shoulders of horses that get rubs. On a cautionary note... If anyone is a neglect fully stupid as me! I didn't ride my horse sat- Tuesday this week and he wore a new bib under all his rugs- shoulders great but his withers have been rubbed! I felt awful but can't see his withers off the floor :(
