Hi looking to stock up and purchase some rugs for my little 1 yr old sec A tomorrow at Ashford market ( looking for some bargains!) He is to make approx 12hh but is a very slight build. Completley forgot to measure him this afternoon so do any of you have section As that could give me a rough guide to what size he would be. Im used to buying 6ft for my mare - not bought small pony ones for ages!

It's exceptionally rare that my Section A would be rugged and that's only when it's below freezing and wet and windy and she's out 24/7. She takes a 4'6 to 4'9 dependant on make.

I think my Section A wore a 3'9" rug around that age. He's now 4 and in a 4'6", although I'm considering going to 4'9" next time I buy any as some of his 4'6"s are a bit snug. Hope this helps, good luck!

Why would a yearling sec A need a rug? Surely it would only need a rug if it was clipped, and I wouldn't have thought you'd be needing to do that for a couple of years.

I have a 12.1 sec B, and she does not own a single rug.

we rug our sec a's but they are for showing and so helps get rid and stay clean of winter coat plus keeps them clean.

its individual choice if you want to rug or not really.

anyway its hard to say as our yearlings are 4ft and 4ft 3

many thanks. Mine will be used for inhand showing to so dont want him to get all shaggy and look unkept. Never had a horse that hasnt been rugged. I know the hardy sec As dont really need it but i just prefer 2 know they are warm and dry.
