Can anyone help me understand which of these rugs is heavier than the other and what the difference is? Which one would be more suitable for a HW turnout rug?

Rug 2 is warmer - 375g compared to 300g filling.

The denier is the strength of the outer, so Rug 1 should resist tears and rips and be stronger than Rug 2.

Rug 1 has a neck cover, so will keep horsey drier, but may rub off the mane.

Either of them would be suitable as a HW TO.

As I understand it
Rug 1, is made of thicker outer material (1200 denier) than rug 2 (600 denier). Rug 1 has slightly less filling (300 gm as opposed to 375gm) but has an unlined neck cover. Rug 1 has a nylon lining and rug 2 has a cotton lining. The nylon lining is supposed to prevent rubs, but can also get clammy.

Both rugs are fairly warm -but Rug 1 would be the tougher of the two.

Is there a difference in price?

Rug 2 is slightly warmer than rug 1 however rug one is made of heavier/stronger outer material. Personally I would probably go for rug 1 because it's tougher & will probably stand up to the wear & tear of turnout better than the 600 denier rug 2................ you don't mention price though?

you can always put on an under rug to increase warmth anyway

Go for no. 1. With 600D outer the second one will rip more easily and not last as long. Also I find cotton liners on outdoor rugs tend to stay damp more than nylon ones and attract more dirt. Bet no.1 is more expensive!
