What do you use to store your rugs in?? Got 20 plus rugs that need to be stored away safe from vermin after loosing a few to mice. I've looked at the animate galvanised one but was also considering plastic storage solutions like the large garden boxes as they have more room
Thankyou

It depends on how uch space you have and how much you want to spend. these are the possibilities I have seen:
IKEA big duvet bags
Under bed boxes stacked
Bigger boxes stacked
Chest freezer
Outdoor bench storage thingy
Bins

I use the plastic storage boxes that go in the garden
They are easy to move & quite easy to hide - if needed

...no seriously. In addition (!) to the caravan I have the 'Useful' storage boxes that are about the same size as a bale of hay and hide these in amongst the hay. I also store rugs in the stable overhang in their bags.

thankyou for all the replys, huge outbuilding so have the space infact will make more having the rugs packed away. I'm the biggest wuss with spiders so need something them blighters cannot get into. Wondering about a couple of the outdoor boxes now and i suppose i could run a foam seal around the top if they dont close too tightly and also my handy spider away spray around the top of the box. As i would prefer a couple of huge boxes rather than little ones.
I'll have a look on ebay see if they offer a more heavy duty plastic as looked at one today and was very flimsy

I bought a dozen vacuum bags off Amazon for not much more than a tenner. I have very little storage space and what there is gets damp, so they are now dry and taking up a fraction of the space they used to!

I keep thinking about getting those bag things that you hoover the air out of them, then they will store in a smaller place! at the moment they are just stored in bags that they came in, or old feed sacks onto of an old suit case!

ah that's what I've been thinking about! guess it works then! did you get the biggest possible bags? how big are your rugs? would you fit a heavy 6'9 combo in them?

Other options are: rug bags (sorry don't have a link) I bought them for £10 and they fit approx 4 rugs in each. Or an old disused chest freezer - spider proof and lockable!

The bags are 80x50cm and I managed to fit a 6' 9" full-neck 450g turnout rug in one, along with a lighter rug. I can fit three 6' 3" mediumweight turnouts in one and two stable rugs, a couple of fleeces and an exercise sheet in another.

Not sure how well the bags will stand up to repeated use, as they're only cheapies but I tend to put rugs away once they're cleaned and leave them until they're needed.

You do have to make sure the bags are completely sealed and there is likely to be a bit of leaking over time, but they're not getting damp! Also, if you squash them flat as you do the vacuum thing, they go very flat and are quite stackable.

I managed to salvage some of the large wheelie bins for my rugs but being a short arse I have to stand on something to get to the bottom! I've put the rugs in old poly bags to keep them tidy you can also use those bags with zips, think they're meant for laundry or something but they hold loads and are only a couple of pound, you'd probably find them in the stores like Home Bargains or Wilkinsons.

Great idea these bags.

Clean and dry rugs, put into the vacuum bags put a label on the top of the rug with a description and size, suck out the air. Then store in the big plastic storage bins with lids. You can get plug in rodent deterrents, they work well.

For short term storage I've found the 'green' shopping bags will fit many synthetic rugs, especially the ones with zips (cooler) bags. Some are a tight fit in the you have to keep squishing the the rug until the zip is done up, but it certainly keeps the tack room tidier.

I use a vintage metal trunk bought off ebay for £10!
My plan is to get some of those 'suck out all the air' bags so I can get lots more in there.

I ordered bins through animate three times totally wasted my time ( can't stand unprofessional companies)then ordered through Equivation at Burghley. Have their feed bins and their triple feed bin wihout partitions as my rug bins. They are a much heavier gauge of metal and quality than animate for about £15 dearer per bin highly recommend. My rug room looks fab an incredibly tidy
