Early this morning we discovered that all but one of our horses rugs have been stollen off thier backs !!

All of the 14 rugs were marked with our postcode

but this hasnt stopped the s*ds leaving our horses naked .........

And to make matters worse ......... we then noticed that they have taken the electric fencing units too

This happened recently near Huddersfield. The postcode doesn't deter them, it isn't the old rugs they are after, they take your old ones because they know that you will have to buy new ones, they are the ones they really want.

Really sorry to hear it has happened to you too - do you have enough rugs to cover for the present? PM me if you need anything as I may be able to assist.

Jude.

Gosh Jude !!! Thank you so very much for your kindness (x)

I am just pricing out new rugs today (hoping to find some 'bulk buying' deals - lol) , such a nightmare!! after the expense of Christmas ect.

All the mares and youngsters had FAL, Rambo and Rhino rugs - one of which was a new FAL silver interactive <lol> .... (Living out, these rugs were a fab fit and they were always toasty)

We have managed to get everyone rugged again - AND I am having words with my horses about NOT trusting strangers!!! LOL, sadly - my horses love people (with the exception of one mare- who still has her rug!

) and so I will have to be on the look out for the s*ds coming back !!!

Thank you once again for your kind words ((((hugs))))

What a horrible thing to have happened. That is truly awful if their real plan is to get the new ones by stealing the old ones... Scum, they really are.

I bet you wish you could leave them naked in a field overnight somewhere...
the only way really is that bright orange/green florescent paint sprayed with letters so huge they make the rugs worthless to sell or attempt to use.
Fix a rape alarm to your fence in an unobtrusive place and that should go off if they return to take the replacement (and sorry to say they will in my experience, my alarm saved my tack the return visit)
You need to notify horsewatch of your postcode so at least they can keep an eye out at sales. Even a couple of letters of it on here might trace them, I understand you not wanting to put the whole thing down!

Hi

This happened to me a good few years ago now in Bromley Kent. In fact I had over 6 rugs taken in all - the old ones and the new ones with my postcode in very large letters in special white paint on them. The local paper even ran the story as one of my horses was elderly and it had snowed over night.

It cost me an absolute fortune and it happened to loads of other people in the area - the culprits were never caught though!!

But have you also heard about the feed thefts going around as well - apparently over Xmas - local to us yards who had stocked up for Xmas were being robbed of all their feed including the buckets!! Makes you so mad doesnt it?!

I'm in Lincs!! Maybe there are advantages to a horse who decorates their own rugs?!?!? I never thought of the theives using a twitch to steal off a horse, mine are all so easy to handle, scary thought. Gonna look around more carefully and get a big dog!!
