Can you clear up a bit of a debate here.......

My TB has a light weight at 4 ounces, a medium weight at 8 ounces and a heavyweight at 12 ounces.....sorry can't get my head round grams

He is currently wearing the lightweight and medium weight wich totals 12 ounces...same as heavyweight. So which, in your opinion, would be warmer??

The two lighter rugs or one heavy rug???

Thank you

Ha ha...thats about the same conclusion we came to.

I thought the 2 may feel warmer as there is an extra "air" layer, but one may feel more comfortable for the horse???

My horse is always too warm in layers, but wearing the same equivalent weight in one rug she is fine... eg. if I put a 300g on she will be fine, but if I put a 200g and a 100g on she will be too hot! So definately layers!

depends if they are 'breathable' If they are, layering them will make it slower to be breathable thus trapping the heat in more.

Agree with everyone else, layering would be warming. I rarely layer though, the under rug always seems to slide back and get really tight!

I prefer layers. Cairo is wearing a wool fleece and two 4 oz rugs so I can easily remove one leaving others in place.

Last year he had one 8 oz and his fleece and is warmer with the two 4 oz ones in the same temperatures this year.
