The spotty ned is out full time at the moment. Freezing his little legs off, shaking and everything. And currently he's no rug on because he's grown out of everything he has. Thats the trouble, hes growing so bloody fast it seems hes only wearing it a few times before i need to buy another as the weather is so erratic that one day he'll need it on because its raining and windy and the next it'll be blisteringly hot. Id bring him in but we're having a strangles scare currently so i dont want him anywhere near the yard.
So, today i felt so awful watching the little lad shiver, that i dug out his old 4ft9 and stuck it on him, needless to say it was like a mini skirt, skimming his bum and he went back out, bucked and it just rode even further up!
So, do i buy another? in which case the weather will no doubt brighten up and i wont use it. Or do i leave him naked and feel bad in the night when he's out and its raining and hes shivering?

Can you feed some hay, or haylage? Mine are all out without rugs!!!

The big one does do the odd shake, just for effect, but that's because she's excited about getting her feed!!!

If he's got plenty of grass, don't worry, if not, feed some forage to keep him warm. By the time you buy a new rug, you'll be putting it up on ebay!!!

I would, as has been suggested just give him some more grub, i am not keen on the idea of rugging youngsters, we never rugged ours and it never harmed them, or the adult horses we had, he will be fine

He's on 2 feeds a day at the moment as he dropped a bit of weight. Its a bit of a pain in the ass trying to give him hay as theres 6 other geldings in his field, and hes bottom of the pecking order so he wouldnt get a look in, then again i dont want to take him on the yard because of the strangles scare!! cant bloody win either way!

Oh, not easy to do then, am lucky at my yard you can have an individual paddock if you want one and most people seem to have them, he will be fine, its quite mild for a horse, it is july after all
