Someone I know has all his horses in overnight. They are all rugged from 3pm onwards - And not just in lightweight fleeces/cotton sheets, but proper rugs.......Lightweight I presume but still relatively thick. They are all stabled in a warm barn. I just can't believe it TBH..........

My horse is smug that he is naked and far more comfortable.

I would assume most people who show have got their horses in and rugged, my mare is losing her summer coat now and starting to thicken slightly

i know what you mean, but we've had funny old weather and you see it all the time. I've tried my hardest not to rug up but have chickened out a couple of night due to wind and rain cos it was blooming freezing, but i'm thinking, autumn on it way soon

At the RS Alberts rugged when he goes out because he gets rain scald. He has a stable rug on when hes in but its very light weight.

Many people around here have had their horses and ponies rugged all summer, and half of them in winter weight rugs. God knows what they will do when it actually turns cold.

I'm in lancs and it's so cold mine have middle weight rugs on (apart from the one hot spell!) and they haven't sweat or been uncomfortable, it's the ones with no rugs (apart from the natives) that suffered and now they've all put thicker coats up. If this awful weather continues they'll be in early too.

Yeah I can understand a l/wght turnout in the rain - But these horses are stood in a barn with no ventilation, at 3pm in the afternoon they have rugs on that aren't esp breathable..... I put my hand inside one rug yesterday and the horse was clammy/sweating. I just think it's nuts!! They all have good coats and it must be 12/13C overnight in the barn...... Perhaps if they put the rugs on in the evening, but during the day it just seems mad to me.
