Hi all,

My boy is booked in for an endoscopy on Wednesday morning so he needs to be starved for 12 hours before. I am worried about rugging him as obviously he won’t be generating heat like normal through eating and I have no experience of rugging in these circumstances, really don’t want him to get cold, he will be grumpy enough as it is.

Anyone have an idea how much colder they get when being starved?

Even though he is starved for 12 hours he will still have plenty of food in his hind gut where most of the digestion takes place and generates heat. i wouldn't change the rugging. I would make sure he has a thermatex type rug at the vets as sedation often makes horses sweat.

My horse still had food in his stomach after 12 hours and again after 18 hours. He ended up having to stay in overnight and be scoped again in the morning

Oh don't say that, I hate him being away for one night never mind two.....hmm realisation kicking in that I may be slightly overly attached to the big grumpy ginger :D
