rugging in the sudden change in weather

the weather has suddenly got so cold... and i just had a hissy fit at my mum!... what would you say?!....
so...
mum and dad, gone for a 4 day break abroad,
they dont know much about horses, but continually under rug my horse

my horse, i have been very lucky and got away with not clipping him yet, (he just has a small coat as we have been rugging up since summer!) :)

i was planning on letting him go fluffy over the next 10 days and clip him then before next weekend.
mum just phones up, oh, we (the groom and her) have decided to change ringo's rug and put the silver (heavy weight intelligent silver lined!) turnout in the day! :mad:

am i right to be annoyed!.. when feburary comes and he is clipped surley he is going to freeze! :confused:

Any thoughts grateful! sorry for the moan!! :D

No I wouldnt say so, I would say you are very lucky to have parents who help you and take an interest in your hobby and no offence but the post makes you come accross as a bit ungreatful!
 
I'm confussed you say your parents are always under rugging your horse, yet your are lucky cause he hasn't got a coat cause you've been rugging since summer? er don't think this is under rugging? If it was horse would have a coat?
IMO I think you are being a tad ungreatful to your parents who you say don't know much about horses yet they are prepared to help you and look after your horse, prehaps instead of moaning and throwing hissy fits at your mother you could either flippin well look after your own horse or try helping and educating them a bit on horse management.
 
Well firstly, coat growth is dependent on the length of daylight hours and rugging early will just keep the coat laying flat so it does not look so thick.

You need to rug for the temperature and currently round here (Oxon) it is down to freezing at night. My horses are mainly still in light middleweight rugs but they are monitored and rugs changed accordingly.

In February it is not likely to be much colder than it is now so I wouldn't fret at your parents putting a heavy rug on now. When it warms up, which it is meant to do next week, your horse can go into a lighter rug again until the weather gets colder.
