Has anyone used a foal rug for a small pony? I've seen some which come up in his size, but was wondering what they're like in depth?? As said in previous post, he is vetically challenged (normal shettie body and short legs). I only need something that will keep the rain off him.

I'm sure they make specific shetland 'petite' rugs, I would have thought a foal rug would be too deep in the body, though not sure never bought one for our colt, I just make him 'suffer'

He lives out 24/7 with no harm to himself and the fluffiest coat I have ever seen. Hope you find what your looking for.

depends how big your shetty is, mines 36" and wears 4ft rugs. when she was younger she was in 3ft6 foal rugs, her masta one fitted lovely and she had a robinsons own stable rug which wasnt quite deep enough but was still ok.
now shes full grown, and only when shes clipped and turns really cold do i rug her, like now! she has a fleece rug made by dinky rugs for her stable, but i have got 100grm fill foal rug too that fits her nicely, for outdoors i bought a cheap 4ft one of ebay and took the sides up as they were too long as the rug was designed for a much bigger pony. if you want anymore details just pm me, im happy to help ...

I think foal rugs will be too shallow, our shetlands were in 4ft or 4ft 3 rugs from what I remember which were nice and deep and if anything a tad long but they had short legs and big bodies

I was thinking of taking up my fleece as it fits him well, just a bit long (it comes down to his knees lol). He's a 4'6 but only actually 9.3hh, he is just very long in the body and short legged.

i find that the foal rugs tend to be a bit bit around the chest. Inky is a miniature horse so a bit more finer than a shetland so you may not have the same problem. Here are a few websites that cater for the little uns!!
