can anyone recommend a rug make for a chunky cob? have got a derby house one at the moment and whilst it fits in length it doesn't fit well across his chest.
just bought a weatherbeeta marroon/navy combo today, medium weight, its nice and deep enough and neck fits well with double velcro/elastic that doesn`t pull on her(chunky)neck when she grazes.
am pleased with it.
my ponio has an enormous neck and chest and I've just bought a Mark Todd LW and it fits! I've also bought a chest expander which seems to work well so far.
islabrown - interesting post as ive ordered a wetherbeeta for my cob and am waiting for it (taken ages) and now im worried it wont fit him!! cahill - still waiting for mine to come, exact same one as yours by the sounds of it -bargain price but alas im concerned it wont fit now so im glad you seem pleased with it. deciding vote will be when i can try mine
Masta's I used to loath but have made a recent discovery after local saddlers has every conceivable one in stock, they make different models to different fits so some are designed fo skinny tb's other for cobs with big shoulder etc. So you have to get the right model for your shape of horse. I got the Tri-Zone heavy weight NZi with neckn a size bigger than my horse measures fits a treat then I got the contour stable rug again a size bigger fits a treat (but the combo stable rug with the neck didn't fit at all) then in the suedette bonded cooler I went up two size and voila a fit.
Rugs are a nightmare, I believe weatherbeta are similar the fit depends on the "model" you get.
You have my sympathy and I wish you luck. I took me three trips to sort that little lot out.
Agree with Mark Todd rugs - other rugs slip back behind his withers but MT just stay there in the right place. However still have not found a decent cotton sheet for him.
I have two cobs - one only seems to be able to wear the Rambo XL, and the other Mark Todd. It has taken me 4 years and a very large credit card bill to figure that out
