Hi

I seem to be having real problems trying to get a no fill turn out rug/ rain sheet that will fit my Shire X Cob properly. Does anyone else own a heavy horse that could recomend the best place to get one from.

I have bought all sorts of brands recently and have to keep taking them back as they dont fit. Its her wide shoulders that's the issue.

If anyone could recomend any brands I would really appreciate it.

Hi

Yes, I bought one on the weekend and it was way too big everywhere but too tight on her shoulders so need to take it back. Mark Todd ones are too tight aswell along with Amigo.

I've got a big wide cob and a Clyde x. I really like Saxon rugs or weatherbeeta for fit. All my rugs have no fill and I just use them as a rain sheet or to keep them clean before a show. Saxon is my favourite and not very expensive.

Thanks cblover

Thats all I want it for as she really doesnt need a rug. I dont even put one on her when its -15 degress and snowy/frosty/icey. In fact someone asked me in the depth of winter when I was turning her out naked if I felt guilty turning her out with no rug on, my response was no, she doesnt need a rug. If and when she comes in shivering then I will put one on her until then she can be naked lol.

I've got a hzone lightweight for my 17.2 warmblood x shire. It's one of the few rugs that doesn't look like a mini skirt on her. She's got a fair old front on her as well!! :)

Hzone? Never heard of them before?

Do you have a link to the website and are they happy for you to send back if it doesnt fit?

the website is www.hzone.co.uk I bought mine at olympia at Christmas but when I bought it they said I could return if it didn't fit. Might be worth contacting them the details are on the website. they are currently doing the light weights for £25!!!! I'm tempted but my OH will go mad if I add to my rug collection lol.

To give you an idea heres a couple of pictures :-

I have an IDx cob with enormous shoulders. He has Fal rugs and Premier Equines which fit him nicely. The PEs are longer though so might be a better bet for a Shire x as my boy doesn't have a very deep body.

Im also beginning to think she would be better if it had shoulder darts/ pleats and the Shires and Premier equine ones dont have them in :(

The PE ones do have shoulder darts, just make sure it's the Buster and not the Bustino. More expensive unfortunately.

Best rug I found for my shire x Clydesdale was Rambo XL. Not sure if they are still doing them, i could see some amigo XLs on google that might be worth a try, but may not be lightweight enough for you. They fit fantastic.
PE rugs are snug round the chest on my current mare, but better than weatherbeeta and shires. Don't bother with derby house, they are very narrow on the shoulders.
