im musing over rugs for winter.... hmmmm. my new lad is pretty fine skinned and I was told he doesnt get a huge coat, this will also be his first winter out.(with access to stable if he wants it)
He came with a Prem Equine 300g combo - which i was thinking of as my 'winter' rug. Thinking I needed a MW 200g ish and also poss considering the Prem Equine 70g.... but the prob is £££££
then I got to thinking and had a good look at the 300g he came with - conclusion is , its not that heavy really . He is already in a scabby/ripped amigo he came with at nights... there is no label on it, but I think its a 200g!!
I always used to think of 300g as HW, the warmest to be saved for snow etc. But with the hideously low temperatures we have had up here the last couple of winters, (-15, -20) is it me, or are there now more rugs available that are 450g + this making the 300g's more MW these days?
I remember last year, practically going overnight straight to a 220g rug in Autumn and and then layering by Xmas and my last horse being in 450-550g total!
..... so Im thiking it might be a waste of £ going for lighter rugs, and perhaps i should just go with the ones i have and save up for a 450g for later on? what do you think?
