I have just received a rug I ordered weeks ago and I am not sure about the size.

When I measured the mare she was 72" but they only had a 74" in stock to order.

It arived today and it fits well around the shoulders and neck but the back of the rug just where the tail guard starts is about 6" over the start of the dock.

I don't think it will fall off and she is only two so she will grow.

Also as its been a while since I used rugs I am not sure about the tail guard.
There is a shoe lace type of arrangement. What do I do with that?
What do you think?

If it's not going to slip and then rub (which often happens on rugs which are too big), it should be fine. Are you sure the 'shoe lace' isn't a fillet string??

If it's too big it may slip and rub. Just keep an eye on it, it doesnt sound THAT long.

The shoe lace sounds like the fillet string, which should go under the tail, between the two d rings at the back of the rug. Fit it so it's loose, but she can't get her leg caught in it.

It is better that they are a bit too big than a bit too small.

As others have said, watch for rubbing and slipping.

Even if you decide the rug is too big, it might be worth saving till it gets very cold and then using it with an under rug. If you use an under rug, you often find that you need a bigger rug to go over it.
