Rugs or wug for high wither TB

As title, she gets rubbs from masta and shires, so someone suggested Rambo, the wug version, but don't wish to spend two hundred quid to find it still rubs her. She wears a padded bib under a lightweight weatherbeta at the mo, but it won't be warm enough for winter. She is typical thin skinned tb, any idea.

My TB (photo to show her wither)...

...has a Rhino Wug, Amigo 1200d and a Shires Stormbreaker. None of these rugs rub her but I did need to get a size up for the Hoseware rugs (Rhino and Amigo).

Have you tried a Bossy's bib? They are the only thing that stopped rubs on one of my other horses.

She's lovely. I go for Horseware Amigo rugs because they have slippy lining, poly or nylon I think. I have a 20 year old mare and a 10 yo TB with no hair at all and seem to muddle along without bibs etc, despite the age and hairless state of my 4 legged friends. The cotton lined rugs rubbed. My strange nags seem to like a nice man made fibre lined rug, like cheap knickers. Each to their own..

My very thin skinned and very high withered tb has no rubs with amigo rhino or Rambo but as there isn't much of him he wears a Snuggy hood as necks blow down , find premier equine best when very cold and windy as deep and elastic neck comes up to top off his neck so very cosy

My TB girlie is very high withered and I have a selection of makes for her rugs! She has a rambo Wug, amigo lite and weathabeeta orican combo. (I am not allowed in a tack shop unsupervised, my husband says, praise be the internet!)

I found the rug bibs to be no help at all, in fact they rubbed instead of the rug, so kind of did their job I guess!
I find the Wug the best although she gets rubs on her legs from the binding but nothing bad, still has hair! Although it is probably 15-20 years old as I bought it second hand 10 years ago. If i could afford it I would have Wug everything but they are expensive and they last so not many on ebay. They do come up a bit small so I think i would recommend the next size up.
The Orican has freestyle and that has been fine, no rubbing so far although that the heavy weight which we haven't needed to use much as she is a super heated TB, which is probably why she always looks a bit light despite tons of hard feed!
The Amigo has been brilliant as was the weathabeeta lite with shoulder pleat she had before and trashed, very slippy and has let the hair grow back from the rubs she made 1 day doing 50 laps of the field at top speed in a fly sheet!

Hope that helps, you won't really know until you try which is a bit of a pain!

I real like the Rambo wug med weight in ride away, so think I will take a chance and get it. !!! A few have said they last years, her old shires that I got for £25 at hoys 4 yr ago has give up the ghost! I have a h weight for REALY cold winter and for when she goes on hol at Xmas to the winter field, ( they get a 20 acre field for 3 wks at Xmas ) nice farmer we have..

Both of my horses got rubbed by ever type of rug i put them in (shires, rambo, weatherbeeta, etc.) but then I tried saxon rugs and neither one of them has had a single rug rub they are the cheepest rugs by a mile (£35 for a medium turnout ) so would definatly give them a shot

Amigo good yes, I have two high wither tbs, the best Ive found are FAL rugs, get a second hand one off ebay (purple with green binding think they are bulldogs) they last and last and are really good for layering when its one of the worst winters like we had a couple of years ago. Really good rugs.

Never bought a new one always bought second hand and love them. One of the used ones weve had 6 years and its been used every winter still going strong.

I have a wug for a very high and prominent withered TB. He has worn it for 3 years for about 8 months of the year (out 24/7) and it has never rubbed any part of him and has never let in so much as a drop of rain. Couldn't recommend it enough.
