The well-used ones, which are not quite good enough to sell on eBay or elsewhere, but not bad enough to throw out?
Is there anything useful to do with them?

Are they usable? You could donate them to a local charity? Even a dogs' home could use them for bedding if they're not good enough to be worn by horsies.

Donate to charity?

My rugs usually last a long time or rip instantly depending on what they are e.g. fly rugs will be lucky to last 1 season.

I give mine a way to the less fortunate (those who can't afford to buy them or have too many horses and not enough rugs etc ...you get what mean) she always appreciates them and I'm safe in the knowledge her horses will nice and cosy and warm during winter.

Suppose giving them to your local horse shelter would also be a good idea.

I donate mine to charity. I see it is if they have a emeregency etc they may well need a short term usable warm rug etc. Or I keep them in the antic 'as you never know' what horse may appear and need some new clothes

Please Please......send them to me!!
Well not me personally but please click the link in my sig. The work they do is fantastic!
Sadly one of their horses needed a big op and its cost them several thousands of pounds-their rug and tack budget has gone by the by so are greatly received!
They also need volunteers.........

I'd happily give them away, but - I don't want to pay for the washing and reproofing costs (and they are mostly worn), and I don't want to pay the postage costs.
I'm stingy, plus that would come to £30 roughly, and I don't think the rugs are worth spending that on - it would be better used buying a new one.
Unless charities collect them/wash them?

If they are really trashed, I still keep them, as my mum has an industrial sewing machine, so uses the old rugs to patch my better ones, replace straps etc.

Could you wash them by hand - in the yard with the yard broom and a hose? This would probably make them useable to a charity?

Mine are used until they are literally shredded, then they get burnt. We used to cut off straps, but they never got used so now have a stash, and don't even do that anymore.

I have given mine in the past to the local riding school but since I starting using almost exclusively Horseware rugs I have not needed to give one away!

Really bad ones, throw out, or cut up and use for dog bed covers.
Decent ones, advertise locally, or put on ebay.
In between ones, the last lot I gave to Redwings/ILPH at the time of Operation Esther, I don't have in between ones that often but I think I would give to one of the above organisations, I'm sure you can drop them off somewhere locally for their collection. I believe ILPH/WHW have a tack shop so they can sell on if they choose.

I tend to use mine until they are trashed. I try to buy the best quality rugs I can afford and look after them by getting them washed and reproofed when necessary.
Sometimes I'll have a rug that doesn't fit and I'll usually donate these to the charity my pony came from.
