Following on from another thread my poor mare lost a lot of mane last winter and after the summer has finally got a bit of tuft back, so in efforts not to ruin the hard work trying to regrow it are there any rugs, with necks, that are better at not rubbing out the mane?
And does anyone else find that mares lose their mane easier, 2 of our 3 mares lost half their mane last year and none of the 5 geldings, very strange (confused face)

I would love to find a rug 2. My gelding has half a mane, but my other gelding never has problems with his mane!! Strange x

From my observations rugs which are cut in one piece, and do not have a seam joining the neck section to the main rug are best. My Rambo's are not great, as they have a seam and rub my boys manes, but there is an andalusion on our yard (lovely long mane), and she wears a wetherbeeta, which is all one piece (no seam at base of neck) and her mane remains intact every year.

my boy had a fairly cheap Shires rainsheet on last winter, (he was v hairy, and it was more to stop him getting dirty than cold) and I just sprayed lots of Mane & Tail onto it every day, especially where the seam was, and it seemed to be fine - I'm planning on doing the same this year.
