Having decided I need a new rug that is really waterproof I looked at various brands, and cant believe the prices of Rambo rugs, nearly £300! Are they worth the money, my boy is not a rug vandal he does make them last but I really need one that doesn't get soaked through at the first heavy shower. Whats the best brand ?

I have just, having seen them mentioned on here several times, bought a no fill from Swish Equestrian. I am very impressed with the quality and fit. Horse has been bone dry underneath it in all the awful weather that we've had. It's similar in cut to the old Amigos - the ones that were far better quality than the ones you can buy now.

I splashed out on a couple of Rambos last year for a horse that was wintering out for the 1st time. 100% best decision, far superior to anything I've ever had before. I do also really like rhinos & amigos as well.

Put it this way, I have a Rambo rug that must be nearly 15 years old. It has never had to be reproofed and has never leaked.
You get what you pay for with Rambos.
I have 6/7 that get rotated around my horses!

IMO Rambo are not worth the money, especially if you have an ID or big chested horse. I love Fal/Loveson or the new shires tempest

I brought a Rambo Amigo last year and got rid this year as it leaked badly, never again

It wasn't a Rambo Amigo, it was a Horsewear Amigo (their budget brand). Rambos are in a different league

I stand corrected ty :), though used Rambo in the past in the 80's for my ID mare and her son and they were too tight so sold all the Rambo's.

I much prefer fal/loveson for fit on bigger horses

Rambo all the way for me :) They are expensive and I usually purchase them when they are on offer at the end of the season so, fly rugs are purchased late autumn and HWs in the summer! Not that you ever have to purchase many - they last for ever! I have one thats over 15 years old and it's still going strong.
I have tried other brands - Bucas - lovely, well made rugs but not as light as Rambo and don't appear to be self-righting after a roll. Premier Equine - generously cut, self-righting but not as well made as Rambos. Shires - a decent 'budget' rug, had a LW that lasted for ages but I hate the buckle front fastening, so fiddly and time consuming.
Some nice rugs out there nowadays but, I always come back to Rambo :)

I have a few Horseware Amigos (1200D) that have lasted 5 years now with no trouble at all, I also have an ancient bought secondhand rambo and I love it, seems to fit my dinky TB better, so I'm always on the hunt for good deals on them now as he has outgrown a couple I bought 5 years ago. I find premier equine nice quality but too long
