Any recommendations?

I'm a self confessed rug hoarder - far far to many & need to cut back! So, I'm looking to buy one of those rugs with the liners - now hes a bit older & can be trusted not to come in with stuffing hanging out of various places  I'd always been against it until now as I worried he'd trash the outer shell & then we'd be stuck!

I've been looking at the Rambo Optimo & the Premier Equine Equivalent? Are they any good & are there any others? Also does anyone do a liner system stable rug?

Thanks :)

I love the horseware rugs with the horseware liners. You can also use the liner with any other rug it stays in place without even having the neck attachments on so you wouldn’t really need a specific stable rug to use it with. I’ve currently got the liner attached to my shires lightweight for the young lad to make it 100g and it’s perfect.

A girl at the stables has the PE with the liners...they are sooo heavy in comparison and she was just saying that she’s had to have it reproofed in places as it’s been leaking already.

I recently bought a turnout with 100g & 200g detachable liners, plus a detachable neck, all for about £90 IIRC. Only needed the liner once (indoors) and was impressed with how well it stayed in place, not having used aliner before. It was from Eileen Douglas Tack Shop, their own brand. The turnout rug is 600d, so perhaps not as waterproof/robust as higher denier rugs, but proving fine for my needs as pony doesn't live out permanently. Can't remember if they do a stable rug version.

Horseware rug & liner systems are fab. Used them for years with horses living out 24/7. Bit sad this year that current horse need minimal rugging so haven’t needed my collection of liners yet........

I went with the optimo and am thrilled with it! It is such a cleverly designed rug. My little cobby mare no longer looks like a sausage about to burst! It had some serious abuse from her as well. She had a PE prior to this and literally shredded it!

I sold all my rugs, the whole lot and bought the Optimo and liners. I was lucky and found a practically new one second hand for £100, and picked up new liners for £25, but it would have been worth it even if I'd paid full wack. Now my entire rug collection fits in one plastic chest instead of being strewn about all over.

I have PE outside rugs with liners now I have five or six horses and the rug mountain was out of control .
They work ok I would prefer rugs in different weights .
I do wish they would colour code the bindings so you easily know which one you are pulling out the chest .

I've got Amigo, and while it does give you lots of flexibilty, changing them can be a faff - take off one, then the liner, then put on a different liner then the top layer. Made worse for me because I have two horses wearing them, one needs 100gm more than the other at any given time, so it's off with top rug A, then liner A, then top rug B and liner B, replace top rug A....................ad nauseum. The liners are easy to wash but take care with the outer - no more than 30 degrees and non bio. One of mine began letting water through after a so-called professional wash. I spray proofed it a couple of times and it is fine now but won't get washed again ever. I haven't tried it as yet but I can't see why you couldn't use a regular stable rug as a liner, especially with the half neck outers so the front won't get damp.

I have a 6ft Rambo Supreme for sale if you’re interested
Love the Rambos but also have PE Liners and Shires liners to go with them
Also just bought an Amigo 12 Bravo which is a great rug and half the price of the Rambo.
I never do up the attachments on the neck and they stay in place fine.

After retiring my old man a few years back I decided to sell his (big) collection as unclipped he just didn’t need big heavy rugs, I intested in a Rambo duo and never looked back 😂
All my horses have them or similar. Amigo bravo or Rhino’s and lots of liners. Yes I also use the liners on stable rugs, when I bother to use stable rugs!

I have Maxima (https://maximaequestrian.co.uk/). The only liner they do is 100g, but I also have an Aldi 200g that fits perfectly underneath. The turnout rugs are 1200D and come in no-fill, 200g and 400g. (Also, fun patterns!) I'm about to get a 200g turnout to go with the no-fill, now she's clipped.

They have a lovely, deep neck, so perfect for my little tank of a cob, but probably not ideal if you've got something more elegant! She loves to have a good old roll and a wriggle when she's turned out and it hasn't shifted yet.

The liners are £30 and the turnouts are from £50 (no-fill, no neck) to £77 (400g, detachable neck).

I bught Rose the horseware amigo liner system and am very pleased with it. It's a great fit and the liners stay in place. I had amigos for Bisto but not the liner ones and I found them to be waterproof and they wore well too.

I swapped M's rugs for Bucas this year and haven't looked back. The liners come in silk feel (ideal for stopping mane rubs) or stay dry which are great for popping on after washing off and they're all antibacterial which has helped hugely with M's sensitive skin.

I like the look of the Rambo Optimo.

Does anyone know if they fit short-arsed wee cobs?

I believe Leo Walker on here has recently bought the optimo for her cob and loves it.
I have a duo on mine, he’s not a proper chunk, but is a cob and really rate that

Yup, I love it. Bobbie is hard on rugs and she is such an odd size. 5XW in saddles but not a big hairy legged cob. My usual shires rugs throttled her and even the PE didnt look great. Too deep and just weird looking. She can move in the Optimo. It was really strange to see her trotting freely across the field when I first put it on!

Its slipped slightly in this pic, but thats because I didnt put it back on myself yesterday and my OH didnt do the tail bit up and put it on a bit wonky to start. Its the first time I've ever seen it move. You can see how well the gusset works just for grazing alone. I wont use anything else now.

You can see how hard she is on rugs! The PE was shredded in a couple of days. So far this has a little bit of damage to the binding, a little tear in the other side and the optimo label is loose, but for Bobbie for a couple of months continuous wear, I'm happy!

Aw. She looks happy (and free moving).

Ta. Titch is your typical short-backed, no-withers, leg-at-each-corner type. Most rugs either have a neck that swallows his head, or a chest area that won't meet up properly, or is so deep / long in the body that he looks like he's wearing a skirt.

I bought PE last year as liked their quality, but they haven't fit the horses in question, being the aforementioned cob and my ID.

Ive had two liner rugs (Rambo Duo which I returned as the outer leaked like a sieve and a Weatherbeeta Tristar which I still use although the outer is looking a bit tatty now). I wouldn't buy another liner system though as if Im honest I dont see the benefit. You can just buy a liner seperately and stick it on under any medium weight outer rug. This is what I do if its particularily nasty weather-wise. You can pick up liners cheap as well. I just find the outers on the liner systems to be rather thin and not nearly as tough as a proper regular high denier turnout rug.
