Once your horse is naked for the summer do you leave them rugless regardless of the weather?

I felt sorry for D last night because there was a howling gale across her field so I put her lw back on to keep the wind off her but have been told it was bad for her.

Thoughts?

Mine aren't even out of rugs yet!!! TB has a medium weight and a light weight on... New person has a medium weight on, but will have quilted rug added later for tonight as he is accustomed to being brought in at night, so will break him in gently to the elements! But once the weather is on an even keel - whenever that happens! - the clothes are off till about late september!

mines in a m/w at the mo,once the weather is more settled she'll have a rug with no filling on and then once it's truly summer,a fly rug as she's allergic to the fly bites!

I go by the weather. I had managed to get Elz down to two rugs at night, but I've had to put her fleece back on past 2 nights coz her ears were cold when I went to check her! Naked in the field though, its the only way she will stay out

Just depends on the weather - ours were naked all winter, but had to put lightweights on at Easter 'cos they were losing their coats and the weather was so cold & wet.

Ours are still in h/w turn outs with neck covers, (were fully clipped) just about to change to a lighter rug.... (weather pending!) Had a lovely sunny day last week and turned out without rugs for an hour or so during the day so they could have a good old roll.

Usually once off they stay off but not this year, we had to rug up a couple this morning.

I go by the weather. Spring is a great big jessy about being cold so is still in her medium weight (but without a neck now) and 2 lightweight rugs at night. In the summer she will wear a lightweight if wet and cold (but I had to put her medium weight back on in July last year as it was so foul and she was shivering!). There is no harm in taking rugs off putting them on, its about keeping your horse comfortable isn't it?

I go by the weather, both mine are in MW at the mo, and having the odd day in their LW.
We've managed 3 no-rug afternoons so far.
They're still wearing MW quilted rugs at night though.

I go by the weather when I have a stabled horse. Mine has been roughed off (now retired) and hasn't had anything on all winter. Wild and free, that one! She's out with two youngsters, TBH I think the (now) 4yo could have done with a rug as she isn't a good doer at all and dropped off a lot, and has quite a rubbish coat and skin now... but owner refused to as she didn't want to keep fussing with rugs - once she has them on she has to have them all the time, apparently. Hmm.
IMO it's better to go by the weather than "oh well it's April now so they can all be naked, even if it turns to -2c overnight or it blows a gale and rains"
