YO's dog ate my turn out rug! Which as it happens gives me an excuse to shop - she is going to get it repaired but TBH it was a hand-me-down and a little big on him anyway....

he's a 6ft 3 I reckon as he's short backed and this one was a 6ft 6....

anyone any thoughts...fal look very nice but are they really dual purpose...what weight should I be looking at for the rest of the winter?

any thoughts or opinons welcome

FAL are great, but very rarely can i justify spending that much on a rug! my new faves are Mark Todd - very impressed. Weight depends on your horse, whether it's clipped, what part of the country you're in etc etc

he's clipped but not clipped out (sort of a trace)...in Kildare (Ireland) no major extremes in weather but it's bloody chilly at the mo...agree FAL are expensive but liked the idea of being able to use it for both TO & stable...he's TBxID so relatively hardy

i think you can use most modern turnouts in the stable as well. i have used my masta and fals in stables. not needed to use mark todds yet, but wouldn't worry about leaving them on overnight either. my horse has a chaser cross blanket at the moment - bit chilly as on top of hill - he's in MW and will progress to a HW as it gets colder, perhaps with an under-rug on the coldest nights, especially as i will fully clip him after xmas. that's what suits him though - wouldn't suit everything.

Im a big bucas fan, all 6 horses I look after have them.

The Bucas Smartex All in One here

or Power Turnouts
here

are the best for the clipped ones I reckon! The Power High neck is the one we have, its a nice rug. Murph has the Smartex. (Not as expensive!)

If you are looking for a cheaper rug, Im very impressed with the irish turnout good rug for the money I reckon.

They are pricey, but they last forever!

Make the effort and drive up to Dundalk and the Horseware factory - the rugs are often 30-70% off for "seconds" (i.e. last year's colours!!). I have Rambo, Rhino and Amigo rugs and love them all.

I use most of my turnouts in the stable too (there's a hole in the roof and he always seems to stand underneath it!). I like the weatherbeetas, especially from equestrian clearance where they're nice and cheap! I have one fal, but I think they're really pricey for what they are, same with rambo ones.

I have to agree with Druid and say go up to the factory! I have got some really great bargins there and never had a problem with any of the "seconds" only difference is that they cost so much less
