What do you think is best to do? I have a heavyweight rug for my horse, had it 2 winters now and go it washed and reproofed last year...should I keep it another year or is it best to get a new one? Not let me down but has got a fair few little rips. Will it be as good after a few washes and reproofes, my horse lives out so must be fully waterproof!

WP, Do you only have the one? If so, I'd get a second. Alternate between the two. One being aired, dried and de-mudded and re-stitched if necessary, whilst other being worn, then vice versa.

If I was you I would keep the rug and buy a spare. One of my heavy weights survived 9 or 10 years with being professionally washed, re-proofed & repaired after the end of each winter (It wouldn't fit in a regular washing machine and I can't sew so I had to send it away). The horse was living out and was never wet or cold, though in later years he looked like a patch work quilt as he used woodland for shelter and they played rough. I still have it as an emergency spare but decided to replace it as it was past it's best.
