There are 4 of us at our yard. 2 of us have got 2 horses/ponies (me being one of them) and the others have 1 horse each.

My daughters pony went down with suspected colic just before Xmas. Old pony, aged 20, no temperature, but under the weather. Vet ran blood tests, couldn't fine anything. I put it down to the haylage and have now put him on hay. Vets bill £250. Now seems OK

After Xmas my other horse ill, mare aged 12 - running temperature, lethargic etc, given course of antibiotics, 2 visits from vet. Bill £350. Put it down to a virus.

Last week, girl with 2 horses found her 12 year old thoroughbred dead in the field. Not been ill, no signs of colic. They have put it down to a heart attack.

Fingers crossed we have had our run of bad luck! Couldn't be anything more sinister could it?

So worried now when anyone from the yard rings

I really hope your luck improves!!

We had a bit last year our pony who is out on loan had tetanus luckily she is more or less OK now, thats one phone call i dont want again!! She is fully vacinated.
Our old horse went down with laminitis, due to cushings. He has just started to be ridden again.

Lost my heavy weight cob 11 years old, heart attack last October, old mare had colic but that was through very cold weather, seems a lot of it aboutl. Animals not use to it

I'm really sorry to hear that. I won't bore you with my story but your horrible run of luck will end - its really horrible at the time but it will pass. I actually started to wonder if I'd been cursed! Here's a big hug and I'll raise a big mug of tea to some good luck coming your way xxx

It's horrible while it lasts

. It will end though hun.

Do the vets think the three incidents are connected in any way?

It is just a bad run, although it is easy to think that someone or something is out to get you. We have had 3 dogs die in three months. Over the last 12 months we have had 2 cats, four dogs and our mother die ( she wouldn't mind me including her in the list). It gets you to the pitch where you feel as if it will never end, but I am sure it will.

Oh I feel for you totally, it is just a run of bad luck.

My big chap went down with colic before Christmas, with the cold weather, followed by an old girl we had on livery, the after Christmas he had colic again (refuses to drink when cold) then our big old eventer was being investigated for lameness behind, which then transferred to the front.

Mine then went down with colic for the 3rd time, due to getting stressed by having his flu jab, the old girl last Monday so terribly sadly had to be put to sleep followed by our big chap today.

Sadly that is horses, and it does seem to go in runs, and this time of year is the worst.

sorry to hear of everyone else's bad luck, but does give me hope that this will be the end of it. Vet didn't think they were connected, but you do still wonder. Thanks everyone
