When i am getting on my pony she likes to start walking away while i just have my stumach on her and I think it is getting worse because the last time i tried to get on her she trotted away, I try getting on as gracefully as possible but she normally just runs off when i am bareback but recently she tried it with a saddle, She just started getting ridden more often (long story lol) and i am not sure what to do to fix it. Any comments are very appreciated. Thanks

JJ does this, as soon as you pick up the reins he starts backing up or trotting forward.

If its a group lesson i lead him over to the corner, block him in a jump on quickly. If I'm on my own usually get on in the yard where he doesn't back up.

Try getting somebody to hold her when you get on and then try with out.

Every time the horse walks forwards before you ask- make him halt wait then start again~ keep doing it and he will get fed up eventually!!!
Good luck- takes patience though!

Think about what you do when you get on. My horse walks forward when I'm getting on but it wasn't til I saw someone else get on him that I realised its my fault. As soon as I'm on we go and I do my girth on the move. My friend had to adjust her stirrups and he didn't understand why he had to stand still. Made me realise its my bad habit, not his.
Make sure you ask her to stand. We've been trying a similar thing to what Tizzy suggested but no sign of him getting fed up!

If you have not yet fully mounted your pony when she decides to wander off, then jump off her, back her up to exactly where she was standing before she moved. Do this as many times as you have to until she stands still for the whole mounting procedure. Do not let her walk off until you give her the signal - if she does then dismount and start the whole thing again. It's the only way to convince her totally that this is not on.

Echo Tia..

Get yourself a good mounting block, lead your pony up to the block and attempt to get on, when/if the pony walks forward either back up or circle to exactly the same place by the mounting block, carry on until shes learnt to stand still!

My mare was a cow to get on aswell, now we are cured using this method!
