I have a 8 month jack russel who is normally pretty well behaved, she's yappy, gets jealous when my other dogs come near me and is generally over excited but those things we're working on.

However, she keeps running away, only when shes at home though, and not all the time! When we go up the yard I open the front door and most days she'll run to the car and sit by it, but shes started running up into the street and this morning she ran all the way through my street through the pub field and into the beer garden I found her barking at a toddler! She went through a stage like this before and I got her out of it by keeping a squeaky with me, and giving her treats when she comes back, but now she just ignores everything.

When we're up the yard shes fantastic, she comes when ever I call her, she follows me when I ride out and is really good then, its only when we're at home!!!! On walks as well shes good and stays with me, its only when I open the front door, I now have to put a lead on her just to get to the car, but could do with some more hints on how to make her listen!!!

Hope this makes sense!!

My westie went through this stage we couldnt open the front door without his running out, he also though it was a game when we tried to get him, food used to work but now he responds to a word which is 'Stairs' weird i know but we have stairs in our hall way and we say that and he runs back in and sits on them, didnt take very long either to get him used to it works a treat now, we used treats and we even went to the extent of feeding him on the stairs when we said stairs.

Hope that makes some sense,

If my JR Mouse gets out of the house she's gone, we usually have to wait for someone to grab her or pretend we're going "walkies". She's fine every where else. We just watch what we're doing

I think its a jack russel thing, I was talking to the saddler at the show today and he said his JR does the same, says they get wonderlust and just run off!!

Our JRT does it too, he wouldn't think twice about running off. He won't come back either unless a stranger tries to catch him, then he gets confused and runs back to the house. We just can't let him off the lead and have to make sure he doesn't escape out the door. The other one is not as bad, out on walks she will stay close and turn and look at you but i have to put her on the lead to start with otherwise she will also do a runner. Must be a JRT thing! They like their independence i recon.
