Runny Poo!

Sorry this post is a bit yuk but my TB mare has had really runny green poo since the spring grass has come through and it doesn't seem to be improving. I have her in a smallish field and the grass is very short so there is not too much of it, it is just obviously very rich. I have tried feeding a pro-biotic and am giving her hay every day to try and help things but nothing seems to be working. She has had a worm count and this came back OK. Anyone any ideas??

Is it like water, or just very soft?

My horse had very bad diarrhoea a few weeks ago and had to be treated by a vet.

it has a liquid consistency but not as thin as water, just very sloppy! She often gets it when the spring grass comes through but normally not so bad. What did the vet give your horse to help it?

His was really bad, projectile and didn't fall into a pile or anything. Just watery and stank!

Vet blood tested him etc and didn't find anything really wrong. He's 17 and grey and has melanomas, so it's possible that internal ones are causeing it. After trying lots of different things, a veterinary strength probiotic and a lot of codiene finally blocked him up. He came off them a week ago now he's on steroids. His poo is now soft, but falls into a pile. We're just gonna try and start weaning him off the steroids and see what happens.

If the grass is v. short it will be stressed, so the sugars will be rioting.

pink powder is marvellous stuff. our new pony had runny poo ever since he came to us (grass very different), had pink powder for about a month and poos hardened up, now off pink powder and poos fine

I agree with horseywelsh pink powder is excellent stuff i have used it many a time especially with older horses with great success

Feeding dry bran was recommended to me by HenryHorn and it really helped my horse who was scouring.

try strip grzing the bit she is on have you wormed her for tape worms? pink powder or protextin have you tried these?
