my mare has had slightly runny poo's never proper ones... shes quite old? shes done it for about a month now... anything to be worried about? should i get a supliment or something ? any ideas how to fix it.... shes at grass and gets a small feed on the night with her bute in.

How old is she E&S? And why is she on bute? As horses age, their digestive systems work less efficiently. It could be just something linked to new spring grass and an ageing tum. On the other hand, it could be something more sinister if it's only just started.

If it was me, I'd start her on Coligone while you suss out what's going on. The powder Coligone is brilliant and smells really minty so is very palatable. Coligone will soothe your girl's digestive tract, whatever is the underlying problem. I'd also start her on something with Yea Sac in, because this aids hind gut digestion. Bailey's Lo Cal is excellent because it has a host of pre and pro biotics in it too which could also help your girl. In the meantime, is she losing weight? Thirsty all the time? Belly a bit swollen? Any colicky symptoms? Long term (and I mean a really long time) use of bute can cause liver problems. I'd check all the normal things like pulse rate, breathing rate, temperature, pink gums, clear eyes (no yellow in the whites) looking for other symptoms. If all the above settle her, I'd probably be content with that but watch her daily for other problems. If she doesn't pick up or has unexplained weight loss, I'd get the vet out to run some basic blood tests x

shes 16-19ish.
on bute for an unknown cause of lameness, almost totaly sound on half a pack a day now..... had xrays on legs nothing showed...

Thinking of getting a supliment at the weekend see if it helps, if not im getting the vet out!

My friends mare was producing cow pats due to too rich grazing (lot of clover). She was moved onto rougher pasture and less of it, normal poop has now returned. Maybe you colud take your mare off the grass for a few days and give her hay instead and see what happens? Or limit her grazing area if your grass is very lush? I only suggest this as buying supplements etc might not be necessary if it's just too rich grass. Hope you get it sorted.
