"European CIC** Team Championships

The next European CIC** Team Championship, which used to be referred to as Rural Riders, will take place in The Netherlands in 2009. The venue and date are still to be decided. This championship includes the unique team dressage test where the whole team of six ride the test together under the command of the Chef d’Equipe.

Horse and rider combinations selected for the team must be qualified for a CIC**, but must not have completed a CCI*** in the two years preceding the championship or completed a 4* at any time. Each nation competing in the championship is allowed to take up to eight horses and riders. Six will be selected for the team and two will run as individuals.

This project is run in conjunction with British Eventing (BE) and the aim is to select a pool of riders and horses from BRC and BE members for training. The pool will be kept under review and candidates will be added or removed depending on compatibility for the team test, responsiveness to training and competition performance.

Selection for training will take place towards the end of February 2008 and initial training will start in April 2008 and run through to October 2008. Riders attending training sessions will be required to meet their own travel expenses, but there will be no charge for the training itself. Training will be provided by Richard Waygood (Chef d’Equipe) and Jonathan Chapman (Assistant Chef d’Equipe). It will focus on the team dressage test, but there will also be coaching sessions for individual dressage and jumping included in the programme. The training base will be near Hungerford, Berkshire.

Horse and rider combinations who performed well in the BRC Open Horse Trials Championship at Offchurch 2007 will automatically be considered for selection, but if you wish to draw the attention of the selectors to you and your horse please contact Peter Buist by email at peterbuist@aol.com or by phone on 01794 368061. Rural riders dressage is the dressage test from the CCI event that is done by "normal"riding club people as part of the national BRC champs at Lincoln as opposed to the Rural riders champs which are decidely not for "normal" riding club people. So it's about a novicce standard test but with 6 of you in the arena at the same time. Don't know about other areas but in our area clubs tend to do it for fun and so not all the flashiest horses just an obedient set that are reasonably well matched so it doesn't end up in chaos. Takes quite a bit of practicing!!
