Hoping for a bit of advice.

My horse rushes after jumps and puts her head up. She's not bad when they're smaller but when they get bigger I have no brakes.

She's in a running martingale and 3 ring Dutch gag.

I know she was like this with her last owner too and they got her teeth and back checked.

i have one in at the moment, and i spent ages jumping grids, with canter poles after the fence and between jumps. anything that means she has to keep focus after the fence and not just run on. strong bitting rarely fixes the problem. with some its just a case of pulling them up after every single fence so that they are never allowed to run any faster than you want. with the one i have in i didn;t do courses or even 2 jumps on her until i could bring her back to walk in a straight line after a fence. it took a while but it worked

if it was her saddle would she not do the same over any jump? Like I can stop if we're jumping, say 1metre but if it goes to 1.10 the running off happens. On the approach she goes up to any height jump exactly the same.

I think because she only does it after making a bigger effort then I would say it is discomfort or pain that causes it, if it was just a bad habit then she would do it after every jump, it could easily be the saddle catching her as she is landing steeper from 1.10 where she is at a slightly less steep angle from 1m.

Are you giving enough with your hands over bigger fences? Sometimes they react to feeling restricted by shooting off afterwards.

Similarly, do you approach bigger fences with enough energy (not speed)?
