My hubby claims I'm hard of hearing. If that's so, then why, at 1.30 am this morning did the sound of rustling and crinkling wake me up...and the sound was coming from about 30 feet down the hall, round the corner , thru the kitchen and in the pantry...and was being made by a poodle guilty of bin raiding and swiping an empty packet of caramel digestive biccies to lick the caramel off the wrapper!!!

When I got up to investigate, I caught the wee boy red-tongued, who saw me watching him and legged it out the cat flap as fast as can be! Sooo busted!

Hubby claims its not proof of my hearing being intact. He says I'm just "tuned in to caramel digestives" ! Okay, he might have a point there...

Thing is...the wee boooger probably waited til all was really quiet in the house (or perhaps waited for the sound of my hubby snoring?) and tip toe'd his way to the "Man Den" (my hubby's tv room) to find the wrapper in the bin...very quietly snuk it out and then ran like hell down the hall to the pantry where he figured he was safe, or at least had an easy getaway out the cat flap...but never reckoned on me waking up to the noise of his guilty pleasure. The look on his face was like ARRRGH! FOILED! RETREAT RETREAT! and out the catflap he went, but in his haste he made one little mistake....he left the wrapper behind! I'd never have followed him out to the garden - it was raining after all!

To make matters even worse...he must have stayed out for a good ten minutes (probably thinkin "she's gone back to bed, but I'll just wait to be sure") and then came creeping back up to the end of the bed to hop on. Four inches of poodle coat is like a big sponge - soaked he was! So I booted him back to the floor. He was like a yo-yo - the second I lay back down he was back up in the same spot. I felt like I was doing crunches cos I'd sit back up, shove him off and lay down, and back up he'd come! WHY WHY WHY did I get a smart-arsed dog?
