so foxs automatic water drinker keeps going rusty, i dont really fancy him drinking rusty water, so does anyone know a good way of stopping it constantly rusting?

ive been using a plain old bucket since i cant figure out how to stop the rusting, but its a bit of a pain since his stables not really near a hose and carrying buckets back and forth is killing my back! :o

thanks in advance!

I was once told a lil bit of rust wont do em any harm, its just extra iron?? But I dont know how true that is.
Otherwise, I would drain it and when dry paint it with a horse safe paint, but I dont know if there is such a thing?
Sorry, I've probs been no help to you whatsoever :-/

About 10 years ago we repainted ours, we managed to find some black paint that was safe to use. last time we tried to get some more we couldnt find any but its worth asking around your local area.
it was paint that used to be used for the inside of water tanks hence was safe for human drinking water..... now most people have plastic water tanks it is hard to find, thats assuming if they still sell it anywhere! we were gutted we threw away our old tin of it and we really wish we had hung onto it so we at least knew what company it was by etc.
if you manage to find any - i would be v grateful if you could pm me the name etc!

The rust in the water won't hurt him at all.

In the past before supplements were easy to get hold of we used to have buckets of water with old iron nails in it to get the additional iron. I worked for a trainer here in NZ who did this and we gave the horses a cupful each week.
