My poor TB with flat feet really finds this ground impossible. He needs turn out to keep him sane but he is very uncomfortable with the ground conditions as they are at the moment. He needs boots on his fronts, please recommend me some that I can buy tomorrow. I saved a small paddock beside my house for these times of adversity, but he has played in there a few times during the time of thaw, and it is not really acceptable to him now as it is not ....smooth!

Yes over shoes, we are on the route to barefoot..........eek. Hinds are off and doing well. Fronts need more time with diet etc. This ground is not doing him any favours.

The only thing is they won't fit when you take the shoes off I don't think :(

One of mine had very flat feet when I got her and after 6 months of working without shoes her feet are very hard and not flat :). She clip clops along as if she has shoes on they are so tough now.

That is very re-assuring. He is work in progress at the moment, he has only been able to have racing plates on his fronts as his feet have been too fragile for anything else. I have had to bite the bullet and go down the bf route of which is making perfect sense to me, with the support of my farrier. Right ...simples it is, just hope I can buy them locally in the morning.

Cavallo simple def the easiest.

Bear in mind he'll possibly shred them in a day with shoes on though! They're really not designed for that.

The sizing is not obvious when you order as they only give you length measurement which is unhelpful if you have a horse with wide feet (i.e pretty much all front feet?!). But they are actually circular and the width measurement is the same as the length. So if the feet are wider than long, go for the bigger measurement.

The gaiters are a complete waste on money as they're rubbish. Thick looks do just as good a job, or buy Boa gaiters.

Also the Saddle Shop do a 50% trade-in for non-Easycare boots so if you wanted a smaller pair of Easycare boots (the Gloves are excellent) that's worth bearing in mind.

Alternatively, super glueing mouse mats to the inside of his shoe is cheap and easy! Sticks well to a clean dry hoof sole, should stay in place all day but come off easily at night and does no damage( after all they use super glue to stick skin wounds back together!
