well,we`ve had a litte rain here today.my pony lives on quite sparse grazing and in an ideal world i would like to put her in or at least in the yard with the shelter so as not to make mud. because of the sweetich i know she will rub and get sore.(have done really well this year and no rubs to date.)
i know there`s no solution really, just wondered what you others do?
also, when do the midges go away?

You could electric fence round the yard to stop her rubbing? Or splather anything she will rub on with benzyl benzoate or similar so it's slippery and treats her at the same time?
Or make a teeeeny paddock in the corner of the sparse grazing and keep her in there with hay when wet?
Or there's always the taxidermy option

(ooooh!! getting stuffed is out of the question)

we had to rebuild a wall last year cos of her itching.
i would be stuffed without electric fence.
i think a week of good hard frost may work on the midges.
