Gah! I'm awful at making decisions - I am trying to decide on a new bridle for destructo-horse and I think I've narrowed it down to two:

The Sabre Finesse: http://www.sabreleather.co.uk/Pages/08DBFIN.htm

or the Stubben 3000.

Help anyone?

I've been to look at bridles in various shops today, but no shop had a Stubben or a Sabre in a black full. Horse is an awkward fit with a big head but fine features and a small nose, so the thicker nosebands will probably look silly... Can anyone point out the differences between Stubben and Sabre? I've tried to compare both but I can't see any obvious difference.

I've heard that Stubben sometimes aren't as good quality, but then I've been recommended to by one by instructor?

Another one for sabre. Have a sabre bridle that is years old and still looks great.

Sabre every time. I have a pair of Sabre reins that must be in the region of 15 years old & they still look good.

The leather is lovely & it really does last. Look after & it will last & last.

Not at all keen on Stubben, not as good quality IMO.

I also have fit problems when it comes to my mare & her bridle. She has a quite thick jawline & wide brow but quite a fine nose. She takes a cob size headpiece & throatlash, cob size noseband, cob size bit pieces & Xtra Full browband. If I have a cob or full size browband I find it pulls the headpiece into the base of her ears & digs in.

This makes her sound like a freak I know! But she does have a nice head so I've been told so she is obviously deceiving.

I have had sabres for a long time and they always stay looking nice. I have also now got an Albion and I really really love that. The leather on that is really soft.

Thanks everyone!

I think I'll probably go with Sabre... if I don't change my mind again before monday! Ack!

If you look in the picture gallery, post titled "How's Corroy Girl looking?" you will see Corroy modelling her new Stubben double bridle. We've had several, and I think they're the best and longest lasting bridles out.

My horse came with a Sabre Cordoba its a lovely bridle, and the leathers so soft, it looks quite comfortable to wear, I'm so lucky that his owner passed it on to me.

I have 2 Stubben 3000 bridles, one in Chocco & one in Havanna. The Havanna is 4 years old & still looks really great. The Chocco is considerably older & again looks really good. I've never has a Sabre bridle so can't comment on them but I know the Stubben continue to look good providing you clean them regularly as I do.

I love Stubben,i have had a bridle for over 3 yrs and it came with my pony and it was well used then so god knows how old it is! I got a new one for comps recently but refuse to put it on until my youngster decides that rubbing her bridle up and down the brick work isn't fun

Stubben

I've a stubben bridle the has to be about 10 years old now, used regularly and still looks smashing.

OTOH I bought a sabre drop noseband for a different horse to go on her bridle, the attached keeper broke on the 3rd use, the leather is hard and not as good as my stubben stuff. Wouldn't touch sabre again

I'm a Sabre fan, all our bridles are Sabre. Had several for around 10 years and they still look good. Also easy to get different nosebands / replacement parts.

another vote for Stubben here - I bought my lad a 3000 range bridle as a 'good' bridle over 2 years ago, he ended up wearing it every day and in all weathers and its still looks fantastic and the leather is great quality and needs very little looking after....

Happy shopping!

I've never had a Stubben but I really REALLY love my Sabre bridle. After cleaning it's always immaculate and so soft. It's been in regular use for a year now and looks every bit as good as new. I preferred the Sabre at the time of purchase (I too was choosing between Sabre and Stubben). And I still love it!

P.S. I have the Sabre Cordoba. The Finesse looks lovely though, they have them in our local tack shop.
