Was just fishing for advice and info really.

Pony may have SI problem ( and yes vet has seem him) we have had him in a few weeks of danilon to see if he improves or worsens (if worsens then completely different problem)

He used to race and we were told he fell over in the stalls just before he was retired and got trapped. Don't know anything other than that.

Talk to your vet about referring your horse to an osteopath. This topic happened to come up yesterday when my osteo was visiting me. Seems that in a lot of cases they can help here

Definitely get a good chiro to look at the pony. If there is a problem with his sacro-iliac it should be fixable. As my chiro often describes a tipped/out of kilter pelvis as discumbobulated (not sure of spelling) think of a horse as a table with a leg at each corner which need to be level and square if they are not you end up with 'issues' from nose to tail!

My horse is going into the vets tomorrow for nervous blocks to his sacrio area, possible damage to either joint or ligament, we have just stopped a bute test as he was no better on bute at all.
His injury is a result of a fall, we have had a 50/50 chance of being in work again.

Without treatment a don't think a physio or orsteo alone can fix the problem, but I stand to be corrected.

He has has chirp out to see him but she said his pelvis was just a little out of alignment. Vet looked at him and did a few tests over that area and he flinched. That's when he said is could be possible SI. Arranged to ring him to let him know how pony is on bute trial and take from there.... He did an amazing schooling session the other night, floated round the entire area do we are thinking along those lines.

According to my vet he wasn't expecting the bute to work as more often or not in injuries to the SI area and also suspensories bute makes little difference.

If your horse is better on bute you may be looking at something else, how is he off bute, was he tracking up, can he cross his hind legs on a small circle, does he take the contact forward, these can all point to SI injury.

Hopefully you are in a better place than I am right now.

Good luck.

He doesnt really cross his back end well on a tight circle, he does track up but his back end sometimes falls under him in the school and it hasn't on the bute.
He will go into a nice contact but it can sometimes feel and look a little heavey if that makes sense (back, teeth, saddle all checked in the last two months)
When picking out right hind he tucks it under so its almost resting on his lefthind and gets uncomfortable if you ask him to straighten it so we don't. Left hind he is fine with and will lift it up straight.

Hugs you and your horse.

I rode my horse on day 3 being on 3 satchets of bute a day, he felt awful, his back end felt stiff he wasn't tracking up and couldn't use his right hind to get himself in canter.
Had X-rays on back, hock and stifle all clear, he failed a flexion test on his worse hind leg, and generally looks very stiff behind.
Will see what the next few days bring once he has had nerve blocks one in this area.

I would get an osteo or Bowen person out. When I sat on mine who also had/has sacro problems after Psd after he had seen the osteo he felt so even and under behind it was amazing. He has seen both the chiro and osteo every 3 months since he was injured. :)

Been there already, treated every 3-4 weeks, yes feels great for maybe one ridden session then starts to tail off, to the point where he is now.
Not sure what he future holds for him, so so sad.

To be honest i dont really rate Bowen.

I will talk to vet as he had Chiro out two weeks ago (a week after we noticed problems) whats teh difference between Chiro and Osteo?

I've copied my response from a previous thread and adapted it as feeling a bit lazy this morning :)

There are loads of threads on this subject - so a search on SI or sacro-iliac injuries.

My horse was diagnosed 7 years ago. Recently I went to a vet talk (vet specialises in sport horses and stud medicine) and the vet was really positive most cases could be managed even at a high-level competing - but this does mean it will need to be managed for the rest of the horses life as the area is permanently weakened.

Steroid injections into joint
Mine also had treatment for close spinal processes - shock-wave therapy,
Regular Physio including H-wave (essential to have great physio)
Pessoa work
Trotting poles
Raised trotting poles
Shoeing - some have a negative sole plane which can be corrected through shoeing
Being careful on what surfaces you ride on and what work you do making sure horse is as strong as he can be
Keeping horse in work at all times - strong muscles are the key to keeping the area stable
If box/ field rest is ever needed for other reasons must bring back into work very carefully.

I've done OK with my boy over the years at Riding Club level and unaff up to Ele but now at 17 he needs a full review as prob got other arthritic changes and I only compete very occasionally in the last year or so although some of that is due to time and money. He won a veteran in-hand and came 2nd in a riding horse class in-hand yesterday so he can't be too wonky! (I'm doing in hand because at 17 he has decided shows are terribly exciting especially when riding around in a group and loses his cookies!!:D)

Please PM me if you have any questions I'd be happy to help or give moral support.

Good luck and stay positive

Mine just got diagnosied this off a bone scan had previously had damage to ligiment between spinal process but something still not right on returning to work so had bone scan which showed inflamtion to SI joint. she too struggles to cross behind. not been lame just couldn't canter was bucking rearing and not wanting to go forwards. had SI joints medicated and now we are on week three on returning to work and fingers crossed so far so good. next thing i think vet wanted to do was tildern infution but thats still to be decided. As someone else said keeping them working and moving is the best thing you can do.
