What is/are the biggest sacrifices you have ever made for a horse?

For me, it is financial, and it is selling a quite nice, pretty new VW car in order to keep my horse through tough times. I do have another one to use but it is not my own and I am not likely to be able to afford my own car for some time to come. Many people might think I am soft, but I would do pretty much anything for my horse.

???? or just devoted.......

Yep we all make huge sacrafices for our horses but at the end of the day they are like children to many people and they are definately worth it!! I'd sell the clothes off my back to keep mine

You car wouldn't whinny at you first thing in the morning and nuzzle you when your feeling low, keep telling yourself that

my first serious boyfriend :s
when we starting going out i spent more time with him than with the pony, but he still didn't get that my pony was MY responsibility and i had to go and muck out/bring in etc. every day.
current boyfriend's mom and sister ride so he 'gets it' bless him!

I can't drive and have to get a bus and then walk to my yard. But then, if I didn't horses, I wouldn't need a car! I work from home and live in Bath city centre.

Run around in a M reg 106, which is always on the orange petrol light, never have any new clothes, cant remeber the last time I bought any, but horse looks great in his new rugs!!!!!!

Reading this, what is going on in my life

I love my horse.

I have 2 jobs, I do not have a social live, I smell of horse and haylage, I never have a moment to myself, but I love my horse!

I would sell the clothes of my back for my horse

I never think of anything to do with my horse that has impacted on my life in some way as a sacrifice. Having him as part of my life has been too much of a pleasure! I had to wait SO long to be able to have the money to have a horse of my own and make my pony mad girl dream come true!

given up Nice car, money, TIME, I have to have 3 jobs, MANY MANY social events missed, plus no time away, holidays etc etc.

But I wouldnt have it any other way to be honest.

They create worry, stress, worry, stress, but that is far outweighed by what they give me in trust, fun, patience, social life, keeping fit, getting outdoors.

tbh I haven't sacrificed a thing as I see it as this is what I want.Yea new clothes etc would be nice but in all honesty things like that don't really bother me.Holidays are just more time to play with horses and not have to rush doing it.
OH does sacrifice a lot tho as he would like to go hols, weekends away but can't cos horses take most of spare cash
Feel quite selfish sometimes as think he puts up with a lot but wouldn't get rid of horses tho

Crickey I've sacrificed loads to keep my horses going, sold a damn good car, havent bought clothes, make up or anything like that for well almost a year I think and no social life atm...
I have a huge vet bill to pay off even though I am stoney broke now but my boy was well worth it every single penny...for the amount of total vets bills I could have nice clothes nice car and a nice expensive horse but I'd do it all again for any of my animals, I go without food if i need to so long as my animals have what they needed no questions about that and I have done so too....

I don't make many sacrificies but I do make compromises, I enjoy travel & music but can't do it all.
I only happy hack now as I would rather spend the money I would spend on transport & entry fees on the Reading Festival etc.
I couldn't get tickets for Greenday as I can't afford it because I've spent a lot of money on winter feed. I've decided not to go hunting this year as I want to go on holiday, I can only do one so I knocked the hunting on the head.
One of the reasons I keep my horses out full time is having the extra time & money for other things.
If I didn't have horses I'd travel much more & would be at live gigs almost every week but if I didn't have other interests I would be able to go hunting & on fun rides more often.
So I compromise.

Time.....they seem to eat up hours.

Lie-ins. Never get them anymore...unless YO turns out for me and then I have to do the chores later in the day and never seem to catch up.

God...I hate this time of year....never enough hours of daylight.......at least by Chrimbo it will have been the shortest day

My sanity!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Seem to spend all my time worrying about whether they're warm enough, cool enough, dry enough, too fat, too thin....

But i still loves thems!

Cant say its a sacrifice, but I gave up smoking and I dont drink.
I dont really go away as I dont trust anyone else to look after them the way I do.

Oh yes no smoking or drinking for me either! It would be like setting fire to a bag of food.
I don't have a problem going away & leaving them but I don't go away in the winter so they only need somebody to keep an eye on them.
But there used to be somebody on the yard who I trusted to make the right decision should something drastic happen. I used to say to her "if I'm away & a nasty decision has to be made I'm leaving it in your hands" as I knew she would do the right thing. She's gone now, so that will be a worry.
