I would be interested to hear from anyone who has experienced Sacro Illiac ligament strains, their recovery and longer term experience. My 4 year old mare is 3 weeks into her rehabilitation (still walk and trot, straight lines only) My vets believe prognosis is good due to age and so long as we rehab slowly. I have read all the usual things and spoken to Newmarket but would still be interested in real life expereinces?

I would also be interested in your experience! My horse was diagnosed with SI about 6 months ago. I chose to go the physio route as the info I received seemed to indicate that people had more success with this route and it seems to be paying off slowly. My horse also has problems in her neck and hamstring but we dont really know whether this has caused the SI or whether the SI caused the neck issues etc! If only they could tell us!

One thing that seems to be apparent is that my girl cannot have time off. Fitness is important as you need to ensure the muscles can support the weakness in the sacroiliac. But it has been really wothwhile having a good physio on board, and a chiropractor might also help.

It also seems to be early days in terms of veterinary knowledge/diagnosis so info is sketchy.

Thats my experience! Cant say Im right or wrong but thats what I have done and its working at the mo for my horse!

my horse damaged his SI ligament aged 6. he had approx 9 months box rest with combined physio and daily regular walking in hand ( no field or ridden excercise ) and then slowly returned to work.
in all took about a year from injury to full recovery but he has had no problems since and aged 11 now he has continued with his showjumping and competes at 1.25m level.
