Sacroiliac medicated - any positive experiences?

A long story but following intermittent canter problems, cold backed symptoms, nerve blocks etc vet diagonosed potential problem in sacroiliac region. Horse back in today had area medicated with cortisone now slow controlled fitness build up over next 6 weeks. Has anyone else gone through this with a positive outcome? keep reading horror stories that horses never come right from this sort of injury..

Your horse is misaligned and probably out in the diagonal shoulder to the quarter ith the problem. he needs to see a good chiropractor that knows how to lift a horse correctly and realign the problem - not just the sacroiliac joint.

The fact that you say the horse has a cold back indicates the problem is diagonal this causes tension across the back muscles and the reason why the horse sags away from pressure. Free up the problem and no more tension.

Actually Foxhunter49 he doesnt sag away from pressure he lifts his back, he has already seen a qualified vet/chiro who has given him some manipulation etc and it has made no difference. The nerve block to the sacroiliac region proved that this is the area of the problem as when worked up again no disunited canter or cold backed symptoms.

Was really looking for a comment from someone who has gone through this treatment..

My old mare had hers medicated last August.

She was sitting down when mounted and ever so slight (maybe 1/10th) lame if you looked really hard but only under saddle.

She was diagnosed with a bone scan (showed hot spot), X rays (slight boney changes) and nerve blocked (cured problem and totally changed her way of going).

She was given steriod injection, but I wasn't given very good odds. I was told it wasn't curable and she would continually need them....


She was for sale when all of that happened and obv wasn't saleable with that problem, so I gave her to a good friend of mine that loved her. Sadly she went downhill with a mystery illness going into the winter so hasn't been brought back into work, so I can't actually answer your question whether it worked. She has turned the corner now though with her illness and now her owner is trying to decide whether to leave her a field ornament or try bringing her into work, although the injection will prob have worn off.... Very tricky.
